May 1st 2019: Criminology Seminar on Families Affected by Imprisonment
On May 1st 2019, I will be hosting a Barrow-Cadbury funded seminar at the University of Birmingham. This will explore the experiences of families affected by imprisonment, and draw on some of the work I did both for my PhD and as part of my British Academy Rising Star Engagement Award project. There will also be breakout sessions - one focusing on experiences of BAME families, facilitated by Razia Hadait, and one on prison visitation, facilitated by Cara from New Leaf.
I will also use this seminar as an opportunity to launch new infographic posters: on the experiences of children and families, respectively. These have been produced by artist Pen Mendonca and contain the most recent data about the number of children affected by parental imprisonment. They also feature themes drawn from my own research, as well as research conducted by Kirsty Deacon of Glasgow University and Dr Natalie Booth of De Montfort University. It is my hope that these posters will make their way into prison visit rooms/halls: if you are interested in obtaining a printed version, please contact me at a.kotova@bham.ac.uk
